What is Logseq
Logseq is a nice program/app for knowledge management. You can journal, plan projects, store facts, collect quotes, or record whatever else passes through your brain. People refer to this is “private knowledge management” and call these files their “second brain”. This is also called “networked thinking”.
Logseq is on Windows, iOS, Mac, Android, and Linux.
Loeqseq stores data in markdown formated files. It is not standard markdown since they use some type of system to link the “blocks” from one page to another. They also have queries in it and stuff like that to make it work easily. Each line in a page is a “block”. You can do several things with a block such as copy it, reference it, embed it, query it, ect.
Logseq tips
One thing that Logseq excels at is putting the journal at the forefront. By logging thoughts, ideas, and feelings throughout the day I capture the fleeting moments that are happening. These can be reflected on and recalled later to make more ideas about these things that are important to me.
Here are a few tips I have so far for Logseq.
- Typeing / will bring up list of shortcuts for commands. Useful commands for me:
- /todo - to create a checkbox for a todo
- /current time - to insert current time. I like this on journal pages especially because it’s kind of like a log through out the day.
- /query - to build queries looking for pages, tags, ect
- Pages and blocks can be referecend or embeded with shortcuts
- Log things that are important to you in the journal pages. I like to put /time to put current time, then whatever thought or commentary I have and if it there are tags I have that are relevant I’ll tage it
- Tags I’ve found useful
- #thoughts - for random thoughts I felt worth recording
- Ideas! The fun stuff!
- #idea-business - Random business ideas
- #idea-app - Everyone has gotta have an app idea. It’s easy! :D
- #idea-service - Could be a business but more focused on the act than the money
- #idea-process - Just thinking of systems to create, connect, and use to make something easier.
- Logseq can be used to planning too. So create project pages that can hold your thoughts and plans. I like to put “solidified” plans into the project page and then use queries to find the fleeting thoughts on the project from the journal pages. That query of course means I had to tag or link the project somehow so make sure to have some type of system for that if you go this route.
- You can share into Logseq from any app/link that does shareing. Useful to quickly capture things into logseq so you can refer to them later.
- Remember to backup
- There are plugins but don’t go crazy… plugins can distract
- Can use Syncthing to keep files in sync between desktop, mobile, other devices.
